Scaling and Root Planing (SRP) is the process of removing the debridment called calculus from your teeth. The hygienists numb this are and use hand instruments or an electronic cavitronic to clean the teeth. We normally only do one half the mouth at a visit. This procedure takes about an hour per area. After all four areas are cleaned after the second visit we will reschedule you to have a follow up in six weeks. This appoinment the hygienist goes back through all four areas cleaning new development of calculus and polishing all. We don't want to have you back to the amount of buildup you had prior to the SRP so we will begin to see you on a shorter cleaning schedule. Our goal is that all patients who have had SRP will improve on their gingival health. Please ask the hygienist or Dr. Berg if you have any questions.
