The first tooth normally erupts by the first birthday.  We would be happy to do an "under age of  three" examination as those teeth are erupting but we definitely want you to call us if you see something dark on a tooth or have concerns.  At the age 3 (three), a child should have their first cleaning scheduled with one of our hygienist.  We will make this a fun happy visit for the child.
